Name: Aleksander Morozova, but he has had to keep that name hiddenhis entire life. Also referred to as the Black Heretic, the Darkling. General Kirigan is the most recent name he goes by.
Canon: Grishaverse: Shadow and Bone specifically
Age: Never specified, but older than 500 years
Appearance: Bin Bons, tall, always wearing black especially with a cape because he's dramatic
Canon Point: End of Shadow and Bone
Background: Wiki.
-Delving further into his childhood based on the books, he lived a nomadic lifestyle, always on the run due to how intensely the Grisha were hunted and killed, especially how intensely he would be given he was a rare Shadow Summoner. To the extent, he wasn't able to use his real name. His first Grisha friend tried to kill him for his bones so she could protect herself (he is an amplifier so he strengthens the powers of others), and his mother always told him that the desperation of Grisha was understandable given their situation.
Personality:
-Calculating and patient: As someone who has been alive for centuries, he is a patient man, capable of making plays within politics, which take place over decades or centuries in an attempt to shift power. He has been waiting for hundreds of years for the perfect opportunity to enact his ultimate plan to control the Fold he unintentionally created, but that requires waiting for the Sun Summoner to appear. He has served many kings with his own goals in mind throughout, knowing when to swallow down his own feelings, how to plaster on a believable polite smile, and how to know his place while becoming the most powerful Grisha in Revka.
-Single-minded, ruthless, and brutal about his one goal: Protecting Grisha and gaining the power to do so. All of his scheming, it's been in the aim of being able to turn the world into a safer place for Grisha and to make himself the most powerful person in the land. It's the only way he believes he can guarantee the safety of what he refers to as his people. He knows from his centuries of experience that attempting to talk, attempting to ally himself and Grisha with those who are not can only result in their being persecuted again and again. His aim is to take control so no one can ever have that power over them again. Not a single more Grisha will die simply for being themselves even if he's more than willing to kill or endanger Grisha who stand in his way.
-Manipulative, liar: Aleksander has been pretending to be other people for a long time. After creating the Fold unintentional as it had been, a bounty was placed upon his head, and he finally went into hiding despite refusing to do so when his mother had told him to. When he had no other choice, he did so and then he returned under a new name every time, attempting to make Grisha important to the King currently in charge so they wouldn't be hunted again. It's a difficult balance given any display of power sends most non-Grisha running or lashing out in their hatred. No matter what the Grisha have done to help them. Eventually, he masters this skill of becoming someone else, becoming someone who at least pretends to be subservient to the current King and knows exactly what to say to not appear to be the threat he truly is (despite simultaneously making himself the most powerful Grisha in the world and making sure everyone is aware of that). In that same vein, he takes on these roles with everyone around him. He pretends to be a descendent of the Black Heretic, burdened by the sins of others. He knows how to be who other people will connect to more: not the Black Heretic who created the Fold, but the young man: the lonely boy burdened by sin.
-Remarkably polite, eloquent, commanding. He has a Presence and flair for the dramatics: He has been among Royalty for some time, navigating the space with ease so he defaults to politeness when talking to others regardless of who they are. Even when he is getting ready to kill someone, he refers to them as 'Mr.' When he speaks, he has gravitas to his words and his presence. His movement alone can draw attention toward him given the way he carries himself, but he surrounds himself with the color black in all things- that's his color. The shadows. He's the only Grisha allowed to wear it though he does try to get Alina to wear the color as well: another symbol of how he truly doesn't want to be alone and how that motivates a small portion of his behavior.
-Genuine emotion: He'd wanted to try to protect the Grisha still being hunted, and in doing so, he created a blight in the world that would forever change it. Many people have died because of the Fold. Kings have used it for their goal. He regrets what the Fold has become for many reasons, and so much of his manipulation and lies involve some genuine emotion within them. There's truth within much of what he says even if its' often lacking context. For instance, when Alina finds him in the evening at the war table, his anger, exhaustion, and pain are real- they're simply from centuries of fighting one specific war between Grisha and everyone else, and not the war she believes he means. He experiences genuine happiness in those stolen moments with Alina, experiences anger frequently to varying levels.
- Believes he is in the Right/has a narrow view of things: Aleksander does not see himself as the bad guy of the story nor does he see his actions as doing anything less than what is necessary to do the Right thing (note: he is wrong about this, he is evil, and he is doing bad things regardless of his reasons that doesn't make any of it okay). (tw: body horror) Even after he has forced antlers into Aline's clavicle (arguably the individual who means the most to him if only because of what she represents), he seems confused, hurt, and betrayed that she should regard him with such anger and hatred, such pain. He tries to get her to see his side and says he thought she would understand, because she knows what it's like to be different and to be treated badly because of it. All the while he's taking and using her power, treating her horribly because she's different (in the sense she's the same as him), and he does not acknowledge or apologize for that. He sounds shocked, hurt, and angry when he says Make me your villain as if he could be anyone else in her story after how he manipulated her, lied to her, and uses and control the very power he claimed to want to grow within her.
Weaknesses/Temptations:
-Power, specifically power for himself that he can use or control in some way. However, he is tempted/attracted to power in others as well.
-Protecting Grisha/creating peace in Revka (by any means)
-Not believing he is in the wrong (for the most part though he does have guilt and regrets) means he isn't going to be all that interested in redemption, ahem.
-He doesn't want to be alone and believes he can only find companionship in someone like him aka someone eternal or who has the ability to do so/is as powerful as he is.
Sins:
-Creating the Fold
-Mass murder
-Assault
-Pride
-Wrath
-Using merzost
-Transforming people into monsters
-Started a war
-Manipulation
-Lying
-Betrayal
-Greed
-Using people
-Kidnapping/imprisoning someone innocent
-Forcing antlers into someone's body
-Controlling someone's power against their will
-Decapitations
Powers/Abilities: He is a shadow summoner- a rare and powerful summoner within his world (only his mother is also capable of it). In fact, he is the most powerful Grisha in his world. He has the power to manipulate and move shadows, which results in a range of abilities including but not limited to bringing darkness into a room or area of any size, using shadows to choke someone, turning shadows into blades that can decapitate or cut someone or something to pieces, blinding others with darkness, and likely more. Basically anything that can come from manipulating darkness and shadows.
Also, he's an amplifier which means he can increase other people's powers/magic, and he can detect another person's magic/power through touch. On that note, people usually can tell he's an amplifier when he touches them, and this did result in his first friend trying to kill him so he doesn't necessarily run around touching people. I'd have a permissions post up for that as well.
On that note, he's also capable of using merzost (magic which is seen as an abomination and takes/drains from the one who uses it) to create a Fold. "The Shadow Fold was a section of nearly impenetrable darkness that grew every year and contained volcra among other unnamed horrors." (quoted from the wiki linked above). It separated one half of the country from the other, and people basically cannot survive trying to cross it due to the darkness and volcra. When he created the Fold, he had been trying to create an army of his own so oops he also used merzost to transform a bunch of human beans into monsters. He can also use merzost to create deadly shadow creatures as well as he tries to create an army of them at the end of the first season of the show.
Also, he's apparently difficult/possibly near impossible to kill, but they don't go into many details on this in the show. He's hit by a dagger to the heart/chest and it doesn't kill him or even slow him down really. Being in the Fold and torn apart by volcra doesn't kill him. In the book, it's the Grisha steel itself that apparently is what's needed to kill him, and Alina ends up searching for all the amplifiers she can to be strong enough to do so/use it.
Items: Honestly, for his 6 items, I'd just like 6 of his outfits from his own world since he basically only ever wears black and wears Keftas a bunch, and I can't imagine him wearing anything else in Hell.
